If you are looking at replacement windows in the Atlanta area, the details matter more than the brand name on the box.

The 700 Series vinyl windows are built in Georgia at the Windowcrafters factory in Tucker. They are designed for residential replacement projects and new construction, and they are manufactured to your exact specification. They are designed for use in Georgia.

This article covers exactly what is included, how the glass performs, what is important to consider when purchasing windows, and what makes this window work for Atlanta-area homes.

How the 700 Series Double Hung Vinyl Windows Are Built

Frame and Sash Construction

The frame and sash on the 700 Series vinyl windows are fusion-welded during manufacturing.

Fusion-welded corners create a permanent bond by joining the frame through a heat process, instead of fastening it mechanically.

This process produces a stronger, more durable frame while reducing the risk of air and water infiltration at the corners over time.

The vinyl profiles used in the 700 Series vinyl windows come from Chelsea Building Products. The frame is 3 1/4 inches thick, which is important as most old wood windows are the same size.

Each unit is fully wrapped in foam during production. This adds insulation around the frame before the window is ever installed.

How the Sashes Move

Both the top and bottom sashes slide up and down and also tilt in toward the room.

The tilt-in feature makes it easier to clean both sides of the glass from inside the house. For second-floor windows, that matters. The sashes are also easily taken out.

A constant force balance system keeps both sashes moving smoothly while staying in place at any height. Composite vent stops and tilt latches are stronger than plastic and allow for ventilation at the top and bottom, and hold the sashes in place while open, creating a locked position.

A few other Key Details

The window features a sloped sill with water run-off holes in the frame, so there are no ugly weep hole covers and a sill angle to perfectly trim the unit to the existing structure.

Dual weatherstripping runs along the operable parts of the windows, including the sashes and frame, which is an important part of reducing air infiltration. There is a solid bulb seal on the bottom sash to create a tight seal to reduce water infiltration. Double locks with a reinforced interlocking meeting rail for strength and security.

Glass and Energy Performance

What Comes Standard

Every 700 Series vinyl window comes with Cardinal Low-E 270 glass and the Duraseal Warm Edge Spacer system. These important features are not an upgrade.

The double-pane insulated glass unit is 3/4 inch thick. The Duraseal spacer separates the two panes. Warm edge spacers reduce heat transfer at the edge of the glass, which is where most insulated units lose performance over time.

Standard performance numbers:

U-Factor: 0.29 Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC): 0.28

The U-Factor measures insulation and how much heat moves through the window. Lower is better. The SHGC measures how much solar heat the window lets in. In Atlanta, where summers run hot and the sun is direct, both numbers are relevant to comfort and cooling costs. This combination is perfect for most homes, but in some instances, you may want to consider upgrades.

Available Upgrades

Cardinal Low-E 366 glass, which is available as an upgrade, blocks over 95% of the sun’s harmful UV rays, and Duralite upgraded insulated glass spacer improves thermal performance, reduces heat transfer, and provides better condensation reduction.

With 366 glass, argon gas, and upgraded Duralite, the window performs even better.

U-Factor drops to 0.27 SHGC drops to 0.19

The lower SHGC with 366 glass means less solar heat enters the home. For south- and west-facing windows, that difference shows up in summer energy bills.

Argon gas is an important upgrade as Argon is denser than air, and it helps insulate by slowing the movement of heat through the space between panes.

Custom grids can be added in many patterns, including Prairie, Perimeter, Cross, and Top Only. We also offer custom patterns and different grid profiles. These are factory-installed inside the glass unit.

For further consideration, there are other upgrades that include sash and frame reinforcement, balance covers, full screens, upgraded weather stripping, tint, obscure glass, laminated, and safety glass.

Standard in Each Window

When you order 700 Series vinyl windows, you don’t have to worry about upgrades or hidden costs to make the window energy efficient.

Each unit includes:

  • Low-profile aluminum half-screen
  • Composite locks
  • Constant force balance
  • Foam wrap
  • White or tan vinyl (standard colors)
  • Cardinal Low-E 270 glass
  • Duraseal Warm Edge Spacer system
  • Sill angle and head expander.
  • Available as a new construction unit with a nail fin and j-channel for integration into new framing

New Construction and Replacement Options

The 700 Series vinyl windows are built for both applications. Which is very important, as many homes have additions and customers want all the windows to match. This is a detail that is often overlooked or assumed, and when the installations take place, the windows that show up to the job site do not match.

For replacement: the window comes as a 3 1/4 “ box unit that fits easily into an existing opening. [Internal link: “window replacement process” linked to /window-replacement-process]

For new construction: the window includes a prepunch nail fin and j-channel. This allows the unit to be easily installed into new framing during the build.

Custom sizing is part of how 700 Series vinyl windows are ordered, and there is no need to force a standard stock size into the rough opening. All 700 Series Windows are sized to match the confirmed opening.

Many Atlanta-area homes were built decades ago. Openings vary. Custom sizing helps with fit, which affects both performance and appearance over time.

Where These Windows Are Manufactured

The 700 Series Double Hung vinyl windows are built at the Windowcrafters factory at 2033 Tucker Industrial Road in Tucker, Georgia.

Because production happens locally, sizing and order details are confirmed before manufacturing begins. That reduces surprises during installation, and if problems do occur, the problems can be quickly fixed.
